This is an upright, strong looking, montbretia with bladed foliage, like the leaves ofa giant iris. In summer, large flame-red flowers flare out from the sturdy green leaves. The top of the flowering spike is horizontally held and the flowers themselves stand upright from this, creating a spiky cockscomb effect. It is a big montbretia that reaches up to around 1.45m (4½ft) height.
