Lithops
(Full plant info in our Plant Finder)
Common name: Aucampiae Living Stone
Description: This remarkable succulent plant consists of two thick, fleshy leaves fused together to form a single body that perfectly mimics a stone or pebble. The distinctive split or fissure across the top reveals intricate patterns and translucent "windows" that allow light to penetrate to the plant's interior. The colouration varies considerably, ranging from grey-green to brown and reddish tones, often with beautiful mottled patterns and darker veining. In autumn, small daisy-like flowers in white or yellow emerge from the central fissure, creating a delightful contrast against the stone-like body. This slow-growing plant follows a unique annual cycle, with old leaves shrinking as new ones develop inside, culminating in a fascinating "splitting" process in late winter.
