Cortaderia selloana Tiny Pampa ='Day1'
(Full plant info in our Plant Finder)
Common name: Tiny Pampa Grass
Description: This compact selection of pampas grass offers all the architectural beauty of the traditional variety in a much more manageable size. The narrow, arching blue-green leaves form dense clumps that produce tall, elegant cream-white plumes in late summer and autumn. The feathery flower heads rise well above the foliage on sturdy stems, creating dramatic vertical accents in the garden. Unlike the species which can become invasive, this cultivar is well-behaved and perfect for smaller gardens, containers, or as a specimen plant where space is limited.
Other benefits: excellent for cutting and dried arrangements, compact habit, non-invasive, architectural form, winter interest
Wildlife attraction: seed heads attract finches and other seed-eating birds, provides shelter for insects and small birds
Height & spread (approx.) at 10 years: 1.5m x 1.2m
Position: full sun; tolerates exposed positions and coastal conditions
Soil pH: adaptable to most soils including sandy and clay conditions
Moisture: drought tolerant once established; prefers well-drained soil; tolerates dry conditions
Winter hardiness: fully hardy to -15°C
