Prunus persica 'Versicolor' (Peach)
Prunus persica 'Versicolor'
Common name: Versicolor Peach, Peppermint Peach
Description: This extraordinary ornamental peach variety is celebrated for its uniquely striped flowers that create an unforgettable spring display. In early to mid-spring, the bare branches become covered with semi-double blooms featuring white petals dramatically streaked and splashed with deep pink to red, creating a peppermint-stick effect. No two flowers are exactly alike, with some showing more white and others more colour. The display is further enhanced by the sweet fragrance that fills the air. Following flowering, the narrow, lance-shaped leaves emerge fresh green and provide attractive coverage through summer. Small peach fruits may develop but are typically ornamental rather than of eating quality. The naturally open, spreading habit creates an attractive small tree. 'Versicolor' is perfect as a specimen tree where its remarkable flowers can be appreciated up close.
