Salix matsudana 'Tortuosa Aurea'
Salix matsudana 'Tortuosa Aurea'
Common name: Golden Corkscrew Willow
Description: This stunning willow combines the sculptural twisted branch structure of corkscrew willow with brilliant golden-yellow winter stems. The naturally contorted and spiralling branches create extraordinary architectural form, whilst the young stems develop vibrant golden-yellow bark that is particularly luminous in winter sunlight. In spring, catkins appear along the twisted stems before the narrow, lance-shaped leaves emerge in fresh green with yellow tints. Throughout summer, the foliage provides soft texture, and in autumn the leaves turn yellow before falling to reveal the spectacular golden stems. The winter display of twisted golden branches creates an outstanding focal point in the garden. This cultivar is perfect as a specimen tree or for providing dramatic winter interest, whilst the colourful twisted stems are exceptional for cutting and floral arrangements.
Other benefits: spectacular golden winter stems, unique twisted architectural form, outstanding winter interest, excellent for flower arranging, spring catkins, year-round sculptural presence
