Weigela florida 'Nana Variegata'
Weigela florida 'Nana Variegata'
Common name: Variegated Dwarf Weigela
Description: This charming compact weigela offers dual-season interest with both attractive variegated foliage and delightful flowers. The small grey-green leaves are edged with creamy-white margins, creating a bright, eye-catching effect throughout the growing season. In late spring to early summer, the plant produces an abundance of soft pink tubular flowers that fade to nearly white, beautifully complementing the variegated foliage. The naturally dwarf, rounded habit makes this cultivar ideal for smaller gardens, front-of-border positions, containers, or low informal hedging. 'Nana Variegata' requires minimal maintenance and brings light and colour to shady areas where the variegation really stands out.
Other benefits: variegated foliage, compact habit suitable for small gardens, long flowering period, tolerates shade better than other weigelas, low maintenance
Wildlife attraction: bees, butterflies, hummingbird hawk-moths, pollinators
Height & spread (approx.) at 10 years: 1.2m x 1.2m
Position: full sun to partial shade; variegation best in good light but tolerates more shade than other cultivars
Soil pH: adaptable; grows well in neutral to slightly alkaline soils
Moisture: moderate watering; prefers moist but well-drained soil; reasonably drought tolerant once established
Winter hardiness: fully hardy to -20°C and below
