A handsome deciduous tree, commonly known as Common alder, that makes a fine specimen in the garden, grown for its yellow flowers in winter, spring.
Reaching around 10m tall by 5m wide at 10 years. It is best in full sun, though it tolerates some shade, in acid to neutral soils, and prefers moisture-retentive soil. Notable for attractive grey bark and brown fruits. Fully hardy throughout the UK and valuable for wildlife, attracting bees and birds.
