A reliable deciduous shrub, commonly known as Japanese barberry, well suited to UK gardens, notable for fine autumn tints.

Growing to around 0.6m tall by 1.2m wide at 10 years. Happy in full sun, though it tolerates some shade on most soils, and needs good drainage. It produces yellow flowers in spring, with red fruits. Fully hardy throughout the UK and valuable for wildlife, attracting bees and birds. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
