Betula albosinensis var. septentrionalis 'Kansu'
A first-rate deciduous tree, commonly known as Northern China Red-Barked Birch, offering real character in the landscape, prized for its autumn colour.
Expect it to reach around 10m tall by 1.5m wide at 10 years. Happy in full sun, though it tolerates some shade on most soils, and grows well in reasonably drained soil. It produces yellow flowers in winter, spring, with attractive copper bark. Fully hardy throughout the UK and the flowers are a good nectar source for bees. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
