A versatile evergreen shrub, commonly known as Japanese camellia, that earns its place in borders and mixed plantings, prized for its sweetly scented red blooms.
Reaching around 2.5m tall by 2m wide at 10 years. It is best in partial to light shade, in acid to neutral soils, and grows well in reasonably drained soil. Reliably hardy across most of the UK.
