Arabis alpina subsp. caucasica 'Barranca Deep Rose'
Common name: Rock Cress 'Barranca Deep Rose'
Description: Arabis alpina subsp. caucasica 'Barranca Deep Rose' is a superior double-flowered form of rock cress, producing fully double, rose-like flowers in a rich, warm deep rose-pink over a notably longer period than single-flowered varieties. The extra petals give each bloom a more refined, almost stock-like appearance, and the display is both prolific and long-lasting, beginning in early spring and continuing for several weeks. Like all arabis, it forms a dense, mat-forming cushion of grey-green evergreen foliage that is attractive year-round and particularly effective cascading over walls and raised bed edges.
Other benefits: fully double flowers for a more refined appearance; longer flowering period than single forms; light fragrance; evergreen; ideal for walls and raised beds
Wildlife attraction: bees and other early pollinating insects
Height & spread (approx.) at 10 years: 10–15cm x 30–40cm
Position: full sun; dry stone walls, rock gardens, alpine troughs, and raised beds
Soil pH: neutral to slightly alkaline (pH 6.5–7.5); well-drained to dry soil; tolerates chalk and sandy conditions
Moisture: low; excellent drainage essential; drought tolerant once established
Winter hardiness: fully hardy to -20°C
