Description: 'Apache' is a compact, heavy-cropping chilli pepper that is one of the most popular varieties for UK patio growing. The neat, bushy plants are smothered in small, rounded fruits that ripen from green through yellow to vivid red, and deliver a pleasant medium-hot kick (around 70,000–80,000 Scoville units). It excels in pots and containers, requiring minimal space while producing a generous and long-lasting crop from midsummer through to autumn.
Other benefits: very prolific cropper, excellent in pots and containers, ornamental fruiting display, good heat level for general use
Wildlife attraction: Bees and other pollinators visit the small white flowers, aiding fruit set.
Height & spread (approx.) at maturity: 30–45cm x 30cm
Position: Full sun in a warm, sheltered position; ideal on a south-facing patio or windowsill.
Soil pH: Neutral; fertile, moist, well-drained compost or soil.
Moisture: Water regularly and consistently; keep evenly moist but not waterlogged. Feed with a high-potash fertiliser once in flower.
Winter hardiness: Frost-tender perennial grown as a half-hardy annual; plant out once all risk of frost has passed and bring indoors or discard in autumn.
