Digitalis 'Hanabee Deep Rose'
Description: The Digitalis Hanabee Deep Rose is a compact, hardy perennial foxglove bred specifically to support pollinators. Unlike traditional biennial foxgloves, this cultivar returns reliably year after year, producing densely packed flower spikes of deep rose-pink bells with characteristically spotted throats. The outward-facing, open bell-shaped flowers provide exceptional access for bees and bumblebees, making it an outstanding choice for pollinator-focused gardens. Its bushy, upright growth habit reaches 40–50 cm in height with a neat, contained spread, suiting borders, cottage gardens, and container planting equally well. The semi-evergreen basal rosette of mid-green foliage provides winter structure. Flowering occurs from early to mid-summer, with potential for a second flush if spent spikes are deadheaded. All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested, so care should be taken around children and pets. This variety thrives in moist, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, and performs well in partial shade to full sun across South England's varied soil conditions, including chalky and clay-based gardens.
