Lobelia erinus 'Upright Sweet Springs'
Common name: Lobelia 'Upright Sweet Springs'
Description: Lobelia erinus 'Upright Sweet Springs' is an unusual and appealing upright bedding lobelia producing masses of small, delicate flowers in a soft mix of pastel shades with a light, sweet fragrance — a rare quality in lobelias and a genuine added bonus for summer container displays. Unlike trailing lobelias, the upright habit makes it effective in mixed borders as well as in pots and containers, where it provides a soft, hazy texture and colour amongst bolder companions. It flowers prolifically throughout summer and responds well to deadheading or a light trim to encourage continued flowering.
Other benefits: unusually fragrant for a lobelia; upright habit suits borders and containers; soft pastel colour mix; long flowering season; fine texture ideal with bold companions
Wildlife attraction: bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects
Height & spread (approx.) at maturity: 20–30cm x 20cm
Position: full sun to partial shade; containers, summer borders, and edging
Soil pH: neutral (pH 6.0–7.0); moist but well-drained, fertile soil or compost
Moisture: regular watering required; do not allow to dry out — lobelia dislikes drought; feed with a balanced fertiliser through the season
Winter hardiness: frost tender; grow as an annual from spring
