Cydonia oblonga 'Serbian Gold' (F) (Quince)
Common name: Quince 'Serbian Gold'
Description: This exceptional quince cultivar from Serbia produces some of the finest quality fruits available, with large, golden-yellow quinces that are particularly aromatic and flavourful. The fruits ripen in late autumn, developing a beautiful golden colour and intense fragrance that fills the kitchen when stored indoors. When cooked, the flesh transforms to a gorgeous pink-orange colour and develops a rich, honeyed flavour perfect for jellies, preserves, and traditional membrillo. In late spring, the tree produces beautiful large pink-tinged white flowers that are highly ornamental and sweetly scented. The gnarled, characterful habit and attractive foliage provide year-round interest. This is a self-fertile variety, meaning it doesn't require another quince for pollination, making it ideal for gardens with space for only one tree. The tree demonstrates good vigour and disease resistance, and the fruits store exceptionally well for several months. This is an outstanding dual-purpose tree offering both ornamental beauty and productive harvests of superb culinary fruits.
