Details
A handsome deciduous large shrub or small tree that makes a fine specimen in the garden, notable for fine autumn tints and an impressive crop of large, brilliantly coloured fruit.
Reaching around 3–4m tall and wide at maturity. Happy in full sun on most soils, and grows well in reasonably drained fertile ground. Reliably hardy across most of the UK, and particularly productive in a warm, sheltered position.
Key details about Diospyros kaki 'Rojo Brillante':
- Large persimmon, up to 8–10cm in diameter
- Skin develops a deep, brilliant red-orange colour when fully ripe
- Flesh is very sweet, soft, and astringent — best eaten once fully softened
- Originated in Spain, where it is now one of the most widely cultivated persimmon varieties
- Harvest season typically from October to November
- One of the most commercially important persimmon varieties grown globally
- Self-fertile and does not require cross-pollination
The 'Rojo Brillante' is prized for its exceptional size, striking colour, and sweet, complex flavour — a bold and rewarding variety that is well worth growing for both its ornamental and culinary qualities.
