Iris 'Sultan's Palace' (TB)
Common name: Sultan's Palace Bearded Iris
Description: This striking tall bearded iris cultivar produces magnificent blooms in a rich, velvety deep burgundy-red colour that appears almost black in certain light conditions. The falls (lower petals) are particularly dramatic, with their plush texture enhanced by a darker central area and prominent golden-orange beards that create a stunning contrast against the dark background. The standards (upper petals) are slightly lighter in tone but maintain the deep wine-red colouration. Flowering in mid to late spring, 'Sultan's Palace' adds a sophisticated, regal presence to the garden with its stately upright habit. The sword-like, blue-green foliage forms attractive fans that provide structural interest even when the plant is not in bloom. Like other bearded irises, after flowering, the rhizomes benefit from exposure to sun for baking, which encourages future flowering.
