Lupinus 'Manhattan Lights' (West Country Series)
A fine deciduous herbaceous perennial, commonly known as West Country lupin, for cottage-style or mixed plantings, valued for its fragrant purple flowers.
It grows to around 0.95m tall with a spread of 0.6m. It is best in full sun, though it tolerates some shade, in acid to neutral soils, and needs good drainage. Fully hardy throughout the UK and the flowers are a good nectar source for bees.
A showy lupin that has stout spires of flowers that are an improbable but striking pairing of purple and yellow. The individual pea-flowers are yellow on their upper portion and purple on their lower. They make their show in June and are said to have a peppery fragrance. Note: Lupins are best cut back after flowering, removing the spent heads entirely.
