Malus 'John Downie' (Crab Apple)

An excellent deciduous tree, commonly known as Crab apple, for structure and long-term presence, valued for its fragrant flowers.

Growing to around 6m tall by 3m wide at 10 years. Happy in full sun, though it tolerates some shade on most soils, and grows well in reasonably drained soil. Notable for attractive grey bark and orange fruits. Hardy in most conditions and valuable for wildlife, attracting bees and birds.
