Morus alba 'King's White' (Mulberry)
Common name: White mulberry
Description: 'King's White' is a fine white mulberry cultivar producing generous crops of large, sweet, milky-white fruits that ripen to a soft pale rose in late summer. One of its most practical advantages over dark-fruited mulberries is that the pale berries cause no staining — to hands, clothing, or paving — making it an excellent choice for gardens where mess-free fruiting is important. The tree is vigorous and spreading with attractive, lobed, glossy green foliage and a naturally rounded habit, and it will fruit reliably once established.
Other benefits: non-staining pale fruit, generous cropper, fast-growing, suitable for containers when young, attractive lobed foliage
Wildlife attraction: Ripe fruits attract blackbirds and song thrushes.
Height & spread (approx.) at 10 years: 4–5m x 4–5m
Position: Full sun; best in a warm, sheltered position to encourage reliable fruiting.
Soil pH: Neutral to slightly alkaline; tolerant of most well-drained garden soils.
Moisture: Moderate; water well in the establishment period. Drought-tolerant once mature.
Winter hardiness: Fully hardy to -20°C (H6).
