Morus alba 'Platanifolia' fruitless (Mulberry)
Description: The fruitless form of the large-leaved white mulberry shares all the bold ornamental qualities of 'Platanifolia' but produces no fruit, making it a perfect choice where dramatic foliage impact is desired without any of the mess associated with falling mulberry fruit. It grows rapidly into a broad, spreading specimen with enormous, plane-tree-like leaves up to 30cm across that create a striking, almost tropical canopy and turn clear yellow in autumn. This is an excellent shade tree and architectural garden focal point with none of the staining drawbacks of fruiting mulberries.
Other benefits: no fruit drop or staining, fast-growing, bold architectural foliage, provides dense shade, low maintenance, excellent for large gardens and parks
Height & spread (approx.) at 10 years: 6–7m x 5–6m
Position: Full sun; needs space to develop its naturally broad, spreading habit.
Soil pH: Neutral; adaptable to most well-drained soils including sandy, loamy, and chalky types.
Moisture: Moderate; drought-tolerant once established.
Winter hardiness: Fully hardy to -20°C (H6).
