Nandina domestica Obsessed ='Seika'
(Full plant info in our Plant Finder)
Common name: Sacred Bamboo 'Obsessed'
Description: This compact cultivar of Nandina offers exceptional year-round foliage interest with leaves that emerge lime-green in spring before maturing to a rich, dark green. The foliage develops stunning ruby-red to burgundy tones throughout autumn and winter, creating a dramatic display when many other plants have faded. In early summer, conical panicles of small white flowers appear, followed by bright red berries in autumn that persist through winter. Despite its common name, this is not a bamboo but an elegant evergreen shrub with bamboo-like foliage that adds structure and colour to borders throughout the seasons. The neat, mounding habit makes it ideal for container planting or low hedging.
Other benefits: year-round foliage colour, berries for winter interest, low maintenance, compact habit suitable for containers
Wildlife attraction: bees, pollinators, birds (berries)
Height & spread (approx.) at 10 years: 0.6m x 0.6m
Position: best in full sun for optimal autumn colour; tolerates partial shade
Soil pH: adaptable to most soils; performs well in neutral to slightly acidic conditions
Moisture: moderate watering required; drought tolerant once established; needs well-drained soil
