Description: rootgrow™ Ericoid Mycorrhizal Fungi by PlantWorks UK is the specialist companion product to the original rootgrow™, developed specifically for acid-loving ericaceous plants that cannot form partnerships with standard mycorrhizal fungi. It is the only RHS-licensed mycorrhizal fungi product available and is specifically formulated for the unique needs of plants in the Ericaceae family, including rhododendrons, azaleas, heathers, blueberries, and cranberries.

Ericaceous plants have evolved to thrive in poor, acidic soils where nutrient availability is naturally low - and they achieve this through a specialised relationship with ericoid and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. These fungi are distinct from those used by most other garden plants and have a particular ability to break down and access organic matter in acidic soils, releasing nutrients that would otherwise remain locked away. rootgrow™ Ericoid harnesses both ericoid and arbuscular fungi types, replicating and enhancing the natural relationships that ericaceous plants depend on in the wild.

Within weeks of application, the fungi bond with the plant's roots and begin to extend outwards through the surrounding soil as a fine network of fungal filaments. Because these threads are far finer than the plant's own roots, they can penetrate into spaces and extract water and nutrients that the plant could never access alone. The result is more vigorous growth, more abundant flowering and fruiting, improved drought resilience, and better resistance to pests and disease - all from a single application at planting time that supports the plant for its entire lifetime.

This product is particularly valuable for gardeners planting blueberries and other fruiting ericaceous plants, where the improved nutrient uptake and root development can make a significant difference to crop yields.

How to use:

Container and pot-grown plants: Sprinkle the appropriate amount of granules directly into the planting hole, place the plant on top ensuring the roots are in direct contact with the granules, then backfill and water in well. Use approximately 5g per litre of plant rootball.

Dosage guide: 1 scoop (10g) per 2L plant; 2 scoops (20g) per 5L plant; 4 scoops (40g) per 10L plant.

Important note: rootgrow™ Ericoid must be placed in direct contact with the plant's roots at the time of planting to be effective. It cannot be applied as a surface top dressing after planting. For ongoing feeding of established ericaceous plants, use Empathy After Plant Ericaceous Biofertiliser as a complementary top dressing. For best results, use within 12 months of opening.

Please note: rootgrow™ Ericoid is not suitable for use with Brassicas. For all other non-ericaceous plants, please use the standard rootgrow™ mycorrhizal fungi.
