Saxifraga x urbium
Common name: London Pride
Description: This charming evergreen perennial forms neat rosettes of spoon-shaped, succulent-like leaves that create excellent ground cover in difficult shaded areas. In late spring and early summer, delicate sprays of small pink-spotted white flowers rise above the foliage on slender stems, creating a cloud-like effect. The plant spreads slowly by runners to form attractive colonies, making it invaluable for naturalising in woodland gardens or under trees where grass struggles. This British native is exceptionally tolerant of urban pollution and neglect.
Other benefits: excellent ground cover for difficult areas, tolerates urban pollution, very low maintenance
Wildlife attraction: flowers attract small bees and hoverflies, rosettes provide shelter for beneficial insects
