Stachyurus praecox

An attractive deciduous shrub, commonly known as Early flowered hanging tail, that performs well in a range of garden settings, valued for its fragrant yellow flowers.

Expect it to reach around 2m tall by 3m wide at 10 years. It is best in full sun, though it tolerates some shade, in acid soils, and grows well in reasonably drained soil. Notable for good autumn colour and ornamental purple stems. Reliably hardy across most of the UK and the flowers are a good nectar source for bees. Holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
