Wisteria

Common name: Wisteria

Description: This classic deciduous climber is renowned for its spectacular cascading racemes of fragrant pea-like flowers that create a breathtaking display in late spring. The abundant blooms, typically in shades of purple, blue, white, or pink depending on variety, drape elegantly from the woody stems before the foliage fully emerges. The pinnate leaves provide lush green coverage throughout summer, creating an attractive living screen. Mature wisterias develop characterful twisted stems that provide architectural winter interest. This vigorous climber is perfect for covering large pergolas, walls, and sturdy structures where its romantic, cottage-garden appeal can be fully appreciated. Regular pruning maintains flowering and controls growth.
