Cotoneaster horizontalis
Common name: Fishbone Cotoneaster
Description: Cotoneaster horizontalis is a versatile and highly ornamental deciduous shrub with an unmistakable tiered, herringbone branching pattern. In late spring, it is covered in small white flowers tinged pink that are highly attractive to bees, followed in autumn by a stunning display of brilliant red berries that persist well into winter and provide vital food for birds. The small, glossy leaves turn rich red and orange before falling in autumn, giving the plant three seasons of interest. It is excellent growing flat against a wall or fence, as a bank stabiliser, or allowed to spread across the ground.
