Description: Metrosideros kermadecensis 'Sunninghill' is a striking variegated evergreen shrub or small tree bearing oval leaves broadly margined in creamy-yellow, providing vibrant year-round foliage interest. In summer, established plants produce clusters of vivid scarlet-red, bottlebrush-like flowers with prominent stamens that are both dramatic and exotic in appearance. Originally from the Kermadec Islands, it thrives in mild, sheltered, and coastal UK gardens where it makes a handsome specimen or large container plant. In cooler inland areas, it is best grown under glass or in a very sheltered, frost-free microclimate.

Wildlife attraction: the nectar-rich flowers attract bees and hoverflies when in bloom
