Physocarpus opulifolius Little Devil ='Donna May'
Common name: Ninebark
Description: Physocarpus opulifolius 'Little Devil' is a compact, richly coloured deciduous shrub bearing deep burgundy-red to near-purple foliage throughout the growing season — a more intense and sustained colour than many purple-leaved shrubs, particularly in full sun. In early summer it produces clusters of pretty white-to-pale-pink blossom that contrast beautifully with the dark leaves, followed by ornamental reddish seedheads. With its neat, self-maintaining habit, it is ideal for smaller gardens, containers, and mixed borders where a compact, darkly coloured focal point is needed.
Other benefits: rich season-long foliage colour, compact and self-maintaining habit, ornamental blossom and seedheads, suitable for smaller gardens and containers
Wildlife attraction: bees and hoverflies visit the summer blossom; seedheads attract birds in autumn
Height & spread (approx.) at 10 years: 1m x 1m
